Aerobic Depletion Index
Represents the athlete’s endurance sustainability relative to FTP under ideal conditions.
It reflects the gradual loss of durable, steady-state capacity as effort, fatigue, and environment accumulate.
Influenced by:

  • Power relative to FTP

  • Rolling endurance load (recent 60 minutes)

  • Total exertion time

  • Cadence strain

  • Temperature and altitude

  • Recovery-related modifiers

Anaerobic Depletion Index

Represents the athlete’s ability to sustain repeated high-intensity efforts above aerobic limits.
It models two separate limiters and displays whichever is currently most restrictive:

  • Lactate burden (accumulation + clearance)

  • W′ balance relative to critical power (finite high-intensity capacity)

Practical meaning: how many “matches” you have left for surges, attacks, and long climbs.

This system is intentionally framed from an engineering perspective: taking well-accepted principles from endurance physiology and translating them into a real-time decision framework that works on portable devices with today’s sensors.

It is not designed as a lab experiment. It is designed as a practical tool for athletes—using:
