Never Bonk Again
Frequently Asked Questions

What is Never Bonk Again?
Never Bonk Again is a Garmin cycling data field designed to estimate how much performance capability you have left while you ride. It helps you understand how your endurance and high-intensity reserves are changing in real time so you can make better pacing and race decisions before fatigue turns into a major performance loss.

What does Never Bonk Again tell me that my Garmin doesn’t already tell me?
Most cycling metrics tell you what you are doing or what you have already done: power, heart rate, speed, training load, and similar measures.
Never Bonk Again is designed to answer a different question:
How much do I have left?
It combines your current effort, physiological response, and personalized rider characteristics to estimate your remaining performance capability during the ride.

What do the Endurance and Sprint indicators mean?
The Endurance indicator estimates how much of your sustainable riding capability has been consumed by prolonged work.
The Sprint / High-Intensity indicator estimates the cost of harder efforts and how much high-intensity capacity you may still have available.
Together, they help show whether you are being limited by prolonged endurance fatigue, repeated hard efforts, or a combination of both.

How is this different from Garmin Stamina?
Garmin Stamina and Never Bonk Again are different systems with different models and objectives.
Never Bonk Again is built around individualized physiological modeling, cardiac response, and progressive personalization. Its goal is to estimate your remaining performance capability and identify when your physiological cost is beginning to diverge from what would normally be expected for the work you are producing.

Does Never Bonk Again learn from my rides?
Yes.
The system can progressively personalize parts of its model based on how your physiological response compares with your workload during actual rides.
The objective is to make the estimates increasingly representative of you rather than relying only on generic rider assumptions.

What is cardiac decoupling, and why does it matter?
Cardiac decoupling happens when your heart rate begins to rise relative to the power you are producing.
For example, if you are producing the same power later in a ride but your heart rate is significantly higher, your body may be working harder to produce the same output.
Sustained decoupling can be an important sign that your physiological cost is increasing and your ability to maintain performance may be deteriorating.

Do I need a power meter and heart-rate monitor?
Power is an important input for Never Bonk Again’s capability models, and heart-rate data is especially important for evaluating cardiac response and decoupling.
For the best experience, we recommend using both a power meter and a reliable heart-rate monitor.

Do I need to know my 2-minute and 5-minute maximum power?
No.
Never Bonk Again can estimate those values from your FTP.
If you have reliable 2-minute and 5-minute maximum power values, entering them can provide a better starting point for estimating your Critical Power and high-intensity capacity.

What happens if I change my FTP or power settings?
FTP, 2-minute power, and 5-minute power help define your physiological baseline.
If you change those values, Never Bonk Again resets the learned personalization factors so the system can begin adapting again using the new baseline.

What can I see in the Never Bonk Again web app?
The web app gives you three main areas:
Capabilities Usage shows how much of your available capability you used during recent rides.
Fitness Trends shows how your personalized capability is evolving over time.
Settings lets you manage the rider information used by the data field.

Does Never Bonk Again sell or share my ride data?
No.
Never Bonk Again does not sell rider information or use ride data for third-party advertising.
Ride information is used to operate the service, evaluate model accuracy, improve the system, and improve the rider experience.

Is Never Bonk Again a medical device?
No.
Never Bonk Again is a cycling performance and decision-support tool. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure medical conditions.
Riders remain responsible for their own health, safety, hydration, nutrition, pacing, and riding decisions.
